Course: Main Course

Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon of yeast 3 g
  • 1.5 cups of warm water 300 ml
  • 4 cups of wheat flour 450 g
  • 1 teaspoon of salt 6 g
  • 200 g butter, for greasing
  • Cheddar cheese or mozzarella, grated for the filling
  • Sausage slices for the filling
  • 1 egg yolk, for brushing

Method

Preparation
  1. Prepare the Yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Allow it to sit for a few minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating that the yeast is active.
  2. Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture.
  3. Mix until the dough begins to come together. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 180°C (350°F). Prepare a baking tray by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper.
  6. Assemble the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Divide the dough into equal-sized portions, rolling each into a ball.
  7. Flatten each ball into a circle or oval shape. Place a slice of sausage and a generous amount of grated cheese in the center of each.
  8. Pull the edges of the dough over the filling, pinching them together to seal and ensure the filling is completely enclosed. Place the filled balls seam side down on the prepared baking tray.
  9. Bake the Rolls: Beat the egg yolk lightly and brush it over the tops of the dough balls to give them a beautiful golden finish when baked.
  10. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Serve: Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack before serving to allow the cheese to set a bit, making them easier to handle.
