Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Sprinkle the instant dry yeast over the milk mixture, letting it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add the room temperature egg, salt, and cream cheese to the yeast mixture. Stir until smooth.
- Gradually add the bread flour, mixing until a rough dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Add the unsalted butter and continue kneading until the butter is fully incorporated and the dough is soft and slightly tacky.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the garlic sauce. In a small bowl, mix together the room temperature butter, ground garlic, honey (or sugar), and parsley until well combined.
- Set the sauce aside at room temperature so it remains spreadable.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.
- Divide the dough into equal portions, shaping each into a ball or a long roll, depending on your preference.
- Place the dough portions on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving enough space between each for expansion.
- Cover the dough again and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Gently brush each dough portion with the egg wash, ensuring even coverage.
- Spread a generous amount of the garlic sauce on top of each piece of dough.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the garlic sauce, making sure to cover the surface.
- Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- If the cheese starts to brown too quickly, you can tent the bread with aluminum foil to prevent burning.
- Once the bread is out of the oven, immediately brush it with the melted butter to add a beautiful shine and extra richness.
- Sprinkle with additional parsley for a fresh, vibrant touch.
- Let the bread cool slightly before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the cheese to set.
