Method

Preparation
  1. Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the minced meat, chopped onions, minced garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, cumin, black pepper, paprika, thyme, nutmeg, and salt. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined. The mixture should be well-seasoned and cohesive.
  2. Shape the Meatballs: With your hands, form the meat mixture into small balls, about the size of a walnut. This size is ideal for even cooking and makes for a perfect bite. Set the meatballs aside on a plate.
  3. Cook the Meatballs: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the meatballs in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook the meatballs, turning them occasionally, until they are browned on all sides and cooked through. This should take about 8-10 minutes. Once cooked, transfer the meatballs to a plate and set them aside.
  4. Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, add the flour and cook it for about 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly to avoid burning. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously to prevent lumps from forming. Cook the mixture until it thickens into a smooth sauce, which should take about 5 minutes.
  5. Combine the Meatballs and Sauce: Once the sauce has thickened, return the meatballs to the skillet, coating them in the sauce. Lower the heat and let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the chopped parsley over the meatballs for a fresh, vibrant touch. Serve the meatballs hot, paired with your favorite side dishes like mashed potatoes, rice, or a simple salad. The creamy sauce is perfect for soaking up with some crusty bread.
