5-Minute Perfect Breakfast: Soft and Crispy Egg Cheese Toast

Recipe card for 5-Minute Perfect Breakfast: Soft and Crispy Egg Cheese Toast.
Course: Breakfast

Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 2 slices of bread: Choose from white, whole wheat, sourdough, or even a gluten-free option based on your preference.
  • 80g mozzarella cheese, shredded: Opt for low-moisture mozzarella for a gooey texture, or substitute with cheddar or Gouda for a different flavor profile.
  • 4 eggs: Free-range eggs are preferable for their richer taste and higher nutritional value.
  • 1.5-2 tbsp sugar (optional): Adds a touch of sweetness, which pairs surprisingly well with the savory cheese.
  • 3 tbsp milk: Full-fat milk provides a creamier texture, but any milk, including plant-based options, can be used.
  • A pinch of salt: Balances the flavors and enhances the overall taste of the toast.
  • Cooking oil: A light coating is all you need to prevent sticking and ensure even browning.
  • 12g butter: Adds a rich flavor and helps achieve that perfect golden-brown crust.
  • Additional toppings (optional): Customize your toast with bacon, ham, cheddar cheese, Emmental cheese, or even a drizzle of maple syrup for a sweet twist.

Method

Preparation
  1. Prepare the Egg Mixture: Start by cracking the eggs into a medium-sized bowl.
  2. Add the sugar (if using), milk, and a pinch of salt. Whisk the ingredients together until they are fully combined and slightly frothy.
  3. Assemble the Toast: Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add a small amount of cooking oil and butter to the pan.
  5. Once the butter has melted and is slightly bubbling, place the coated bread slices into the skillet.
  6. Quickly sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of each slice.
  7. Cook the Toast: Cook each slice for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. To ensure the toast is extra crispy, gently press down on the bread with a spatula while it’s cooking.
  9. Serve: Once cooked, transfer the toast slices to a plate. Garnish with additional cheese, herbs, or a drizzle of maple syrup if desired.
  10. Serve immediately while the toast is still hot and the cheese is perfectly melted.
