- Season the Steak:Combine steak, oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Cook the Steak:Heat a skillet over medium-high. Sear the steak strips 2–3 minutes per side until browned, but still juicy. Remove from pan.
- Caramelize the Onions:In the same pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced onion and cook 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally until soft and golden-brown.
- Toast the Bread:Preheat your oven to 175 °C. Place roll halves or baguette on a baking sheet and toast for 5–7 minutes until lightly crisp.
- Assemble & Melt:Spread mayonnaise (and mustard if using) on toasted bread. Layer steak, onions, and cheese. Bake 2–3 minutes until cheese is melted.
- Add Fresh Toppings:Optionally top with arugula and tomato slices.
- Serve Immediately:Slice and enjoy while hot—the flavors are best fresh.
