Preparation
- Prepare the oven and ingredients: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Slice the hot dog breads lengthwise down the center, but don’t cut all the way through—you’re creating a “boat.” Scoop out a little bread from the middle to make room for the filling.
- Cook the sausages: In a frying pan, heat a small amount of olive oil and lightly brown the sausages for a few minutes. This gives them a rich, savory flavor and a crisp exterior.
- Make the egg mixture: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
- Assemble the boats: Brush the inside of each bread with a little olive oil. Add a handful of grated cheese at the bottom, then place two sausages in each bread. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the sausages, allowing it to soak into the bread slightly. Top with more cheese.
- Bake: Transfer the bread boats to a parchment-lined baking tray. Bake for 10–15 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the cheese is melted and golden.
- Serve: Let them cool slightly, then serve warm. Garnish with chopped parsley or a drizzle of ketchup and mustard if desired.
