Preparation
- Prepare the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and half-and-half until fully combined and smooth.
- Add the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Prepare the Rolls: Using a toothpick or skewer, poke several holes in the bottom of each Hawaiian roll. This allows the custard to soak in effectively without making the rolls too soggy.
- Soak the Rolls: Working in batches, dip the rolls into the custard mixture, allowing them to soak for about 30 seconds. Be sure to turn the rolls to coat all sides evenly. Avoid soaking for too long to prevent them from becoming overly soggy.
- Cook the French Toast: In a nonstick skillet or griddle, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-low heat.
- Carefully place the soaked rolls in the skillet. Cook for 30-60 seconds per side, turning gently with a spatula to achieve a golden brown color on all sides.
- Serve: Remove the cooked Hawaiian Roll French Toast from the skillet and place it on a serving plate.
- Dust with powdered sugar and top with fresh berries or your choice of fruit. Drizzle with maple syrup if desired.
