Course: Main Course

Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 3 large potatoes 1kg
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • A pinch of salt
  • 150g grated mozzarella

Method

Preparation
  1. Preparing the Potatoes: Begin by thoroughly washing the 3 large potatoes. Peel them and cut them into even, medium-thick slices. This will ensure they cook evenly and develop a beautiful golden-brown texture.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the potato slices with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and a pinch of salt. Olive oil not only enhances the flavor but also helps the potatoes crisp up nicely during cooking.
  3. Preheat a large non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Place the potato slices in a single layer and fry them gently until they are golden and cooked through. You want them to be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Once cooked, set the potatoes aside on a plate.
  4. Making the Stuffing: In the same skillet, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and heat it over medium heat.
  5. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic, stirring until they become fragrant and start to soften. Onions and garlic are essential for creating a rich, savory base.
  6. Add the 350g of minced meat to the pan. You can use beef, lamb, or even turkey, depending on your preference. Stir the meat and break it apart as it cooks, making sure it browns evenly.
  7. Once the meat has browned, add 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce, the finely chopped coriander, and all the spices: salt, black pepper, curry powder, and paprika. Stir everything together and let it simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld beautifully.
  8. Add the 100g of grated mozzarella to the meat mixture, stirring until the cheese melts and creates a creamy, savory filling. The cheese not only adds flavor but also helps bind the stuffing together.
  9. Assembling the Dish: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  10. In a baking dish or casserole, begin by layering half of the fried potato slices at the bottom.
  11. Spread the minced meat mixture over the potato layer, ensuring it's evenly distributed. This meat filling is packed with flavor and forms the heart of the dish.
  12. Sprinkle a little extra grated mozzarella on top of the meat layer for added cheesiness.
  13. Add the remaining potato slices on top, creating a nice, even layer. Finally, finish with the remaining 150g of grated mozzarella cheese, covering the top layer of potatoes.
  14. The cheese will melt and form a golden, bubbly crust on top of the dish, making it irresistibly delicious.
  15. Baking: Place the assembled dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese on top is melted and golden brown.
  16. Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. This resting time allows the flavors to settle and makes it easier to slice.
