How to Make Delicious Classic Vanilla Slice
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Unfold the chilled puff pastry sheets onto the prepared baking sheets. Dock the surface with a fork.
- Bake the sheets for 20–22 minutes until they turn a lovely golden brown.
- Combine whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, unsalted butter, and vanilla in a medium saucepan.
- Whisk flour with water in a separate bowl until smooth, creating a slurry.
- Temper the egg yolks by gradually whisking in a little of the hot milk mixture.
- Cook the custard mixture on medium heat, whisking constantly until it thickens.
- Strain the custard through a fine sieve and allow it to cool for about 5 minutes.
- Layer the dessert by placing one puff pastry sheet in the prepared pan, pour custard, and place second sheet on top.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 3-4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Dust generously with powdered sugar right before serving, then slice into pieces.

Notes
For added flavor, serve with fresh berries. Use a serrated knife dipped in hot water to slice neatly.
