- Preheat the Oven: Heat your oven to 150°C (300°F). This low temperature allows the potatoes to cook through without burning.
- Prepare the Baking Dish: Use butter to grease a baking dish thoroughly. This not only prevents sticking but also adds flavor.
- Arrange the Potatoes: Layer the thinly sliced potatoes in the greased baking dish. The thinner the slices, the quicker and more evenly they will cook.
- Make the Cream Sauce: In a saucepan, combine the cream, chopped garlic, salt, and black pepper. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Be careful not to let it boil over.
- Stir well to ensure the garlic is evenly distributed and the seasonings are well mixed.
- Bake the Potatoes: Pour the hot cream mixture over the arranged potatoes, making sure it seeps into every layer.
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes. During this time, the cream will thicken and begin to absorb into the potatoes.
- Add the Cheese: Remove the dish from the oven and evenly sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the top of the potatoes.
- Return the dish to the oven and continue to bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and starts to turn golden brown.
- Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool slightly for a few minutes.
- If desired, garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a touch of color and freshness.
- Serve warm as a perfect accompaniment to meats, poultry, or even as a standalone dish with a side salad.
