Beef with Oyster Sauce

  • For Marinating: 1 lb (450 g) beef flank steak or skirt steak
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • 1 teaspoon peanut oil
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, mix beef with marinating ingredients. Set aside while prepping the other ingredients.
  2. In a small bowl, mix all sauce ingredients until cornstarch dissolves completely.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef in a single layer and cook for 1 minute until browned. Flip and cook for another minute. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the skillet. Stir-fry onion, garlic, and ginger for 2 minutes.
  5. Add asparagus and cook for 1 minute until slightly tender.
  6. Stir the sauce mixture again and pour it into the skillet. Stir until thickened.
  7. Return beef to the skillet and toss to coat. Cook for another minute, then serve hot over steamed rice.
