Full Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 480g all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 100g butter
  • 1 glass of water
  • 300g beef, minced
  • 1 potato, peeled and diced
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 80g fat (such as lard or shortening)
  • 1 egg yolk, beaten (for brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Sesame seeds (for sprinkling)

Directions:

  1. Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add water, stirring until the dough comes together. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a skillet, heat the fat over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until softened. Add the minced beef, diced potato, cumin, black pepper, and salt to taste. Cook until the beef is browned and the potatoes are tender. Let the filling cool.
  3. Assemble the Pie: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Roll out two-thirds of the dough on a floured surface to fit a pie dish. Transfer the dough to the dish, pressing it into the bottom and up the sides. Add the beef and potato filling. Roll out the remaining dough and place it over the filling as a top crust. Crimp the edges to seal.
  4. Bake: Brush the top of the pie with beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the crust is golden brown.
  5. Serve: Let the pie cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy the envious looks from your neighbors!
