Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground sweet or mild pork sausage
  • 1 medium white onion, diced
  • 1 green or red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 jalapeno, diced
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp ground pepper
  • 1 (12 oz.) can whole tomatoes, hand-crushed
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 3 cups chicken broth

 

Directions:

  1. In a large pot, brown the ground beef and pork sausage over medium heat. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and jalapeno. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in thyme, basil, salt, and pepper.
  4. Mix in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and garlic.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
  6. Add elbow macaroni and soy sauce. Cook until the macaroni is tender, about 10-12 minutes.
  7. Stir in ketchup and simmer for 5 more minutes. Adjust seasoning if necessary and serve hot.
