Ingredients
– 1 large French bread loaf
– 1 lb thinly sliced steak (ribeye or flank steak)
– 1 green bell pepper, sliced
– 1 yellow onion, sliced
– 2 cups shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
– 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1/2 tsp dried parsley
– 1/2 tsp salt
– 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the French loaf lengthwise but not all the way through, creating a pocket.
2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the steak with salt and pepper until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, sauté the green bell pepper and onion until softened, 4-5 minutes.
4. Mix melted butter with minced garlic and dried parsley, then brush the inside of the bread loaf generously.
5. Layer cooked steak, sautéed veggies, and shredded cheese inside the bread pocket.
6. Wrap the loaf in foil and bake for 15 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 5 minutes to crisp the top.
7. Slice and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce, like garlic aioli or marinara.
