Homemade Skillet Garlic Bread: A Crispy Delight

  • Author: Elizabeth
  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Dough:
    • 300 ml lukewarm water
    • 1 tsp honey or sugar
    • 1.5 tsp (7 grams) active dry yeast
    • 500 grams refined flour (all-purpose flour)
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • For the Garlic Butter:
    • 4–5 tbsp butter, melted
    • 2 tbsp garlic, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preparing the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine lukewarm water and honey (or sugar). Stir until dissolved.
    • Sprinkle yeast over the mixture and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy, showing that the yeast is active.
    • Add refined flour and salt to the yeast mixture, starting to mix to incorporate all the ingredients.
    • Drizzle in olive oil and continue mixing until a soft dough forms.
    • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until doubled in size.
  2. Preparing the Garlic Butter:
    • In a small bowl, combine melted butter and chopped garlic. Set aside for later use.
  3. Shaping and Cooking the Garlic Bread:
    • Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles.
    • Divide the dough into four equal portions, rolling each into a ball and then flattening into a disk about 1/2 inch thick.
    • Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
    • Brush one side of each dough disk with garlic butter and place it buttered-side-down in the skillet.
    • Cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
    • While the first side cooks, brush the top side with garlic butter.
    • Flip the bread and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side until golden and crispy.
    • Remove from the skillet and repeat with the remaining dough disks.
  4. Serving:
    • Serve the garlic bread warm, either as is or sliced into wedges.
