Ingredients
Scale
- For the Dough:
- 300 ml lukewarm water
- 1 tsp honey or sugar
- 1.5 tsp (7 grams) active dry yeast
- 500 grams refined flour (all-purpose flour)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- For the Garlic Butter:
- 4–5 tbsp butter, melted
- 2 tbsp garlic, chopped
Instructions
- Preparing the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine lukewarm water and honey (or sugar). Stir until dissolved.
- Sprinkle yeast over the mixture and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy, showing that the yeast is active.
- Add refined flour and salt to the yeast mixture, starting to mix to incorporate all the ingredients.
- Drizzle in olive oil and continue mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preparing the Garlic Butter:
- In a small bowl, combine melted butter and chopped garlic. Set aside for later use.
- Shaping and Cooking the Garlic Bread:
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles.
- Divide the dough into four equal portions, rolling each into a ball and then flattening into a disk about 1/2 inch thick.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
- Brush one side of each dough disk with garlic butter and place it buttered-side-down in the skillet.
- Cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
- While the first side cooks, brush the top side with garlic butter.
- Flip the bread and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side until golden and crispy.
- Remove from the skillet and repeat with the remaining dough disks.
- Serving:
- Serve the garlic bread warm, either as is or sliced into wedges.
