Description

This classic lasagna features layers of tender noodles, savory meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella, all baked to perfection. Rich, hearty, and comforting, it’s the perfect Italian-inspired dish for family gatherings or cozy dinners.

Ingredients

– 12 lasagna noodles
– 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
– 1 small onion, diced
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– 4 cups marinara sauce
– 1 tsp dried basil
– 1 tsp dried oregano
– Salt and pepper, to taste
– 15 oz ricotta cheese
– 1 large egg
– 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
– 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
– Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Cook lasagna noodles in salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
3. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
4. Stir in marinara sauce, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, then remove from heat.
5. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan. Mix well and set aside.
6. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer 4 lasagna noodles on top.
7. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of meat sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella.
8. Repeat layers, finishing with a layer of noodles topped with remaining sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
9. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
10. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley.

Notes

Tip: Serve with a simple arugula or mixed green salad to balance the richness of the lasagna.

Chef’s Note: For a deeper flavor, add a splash of red wine to the meat sauce during cooking.
