Description
Ingredients
– 1 lb ground beef
– 1 small onion, finely chopped
– 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1/2 cup ketchup
– 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
– 1 tbsp brown sugar
– 1/2 tsp salt
– 1/4 tsp black pepper
– 1 cup shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
– 4 burger buns, toasted
Instructions
1. **Cook the Beef:** In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with chopped onion, green bell pepper, and garlic until the beef is browned and vegetables are softened. Drain any excess fat.
2. **Make the Sauce:** Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.
3. **Add the Cheese:** Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the beef mixture in the skillet. Cover and let the cheese melt, about 2-3 minutes.
4. **Assemble the Sandwiches:** Spoon the cheesy sloppy joe mixture onto the toasted burger buns and serve immediately.
Notes
**Tip:** Serve with pickles or a side of coleslaw for added crunch and flavor.
**Chef’s Note:** For a spicy twist, add a dash of hot sauce or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the beef mixture.
